The online course includes all the study materials you will need, although students will benefit from having a copy of the International Accounting Standards Board's (IASB) International Accounting Standards book, which you can order from the IASB website in the Related links list on the left-hand side of the page.
If you are already applying International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) at work and want formal recognition of your skills, you can apply to only take the online CertIFR assessment. If you do not need certification, but want extra knowledge in the field, you can choose the course only.
You can apply online at any time. When you have paid by credit card, you will get access to the online course and assessments for three months. Typically, a student should take 20 hours to work through the course.
If you are an ACCA member, studying for another qualification can count towards your continuing professional development (CPD). ACCA’s CPD policy states that one hour of learning is equivalent to one unit. Learning is verifiable if it is relevant to your career, you can demonstrate how you have applied the learning and you can prove that the learning took place (copies of course materials, notes from learning, contact details of a third party who can substantiate completion of the activity, certificate showing the course/assessment was completed etc).
In addition, if you are achieving your CPD via the unit route, studying this certificate may fully meet your 40 unit CPD requirement for one year; in this case you can also carry forward up to 21 verifiable units to the following CPD year.
You must pass the one-hour multiple-choice assessment - which is online. The pass mark is 50 per cent. If you fail, you are allowed two attempts to re-sit this assessment. All attempts at the assessment must be within three months of access to the online course. If you fail after three attempts at the assessment, you will need to pay a further registration fee and will be offered another three attempts to pass the assessment.
